This excellent miniature of tessin-habit quartz is from a classic Northeastern localilty. The quartz crystal, which measures 1.2 cm, has some natural contacting but also has excellent terminations. The almandine (up to 5 mm across) has a deep red color and striated faces. There is also some green chlorite-group mineral present for contrast.
Tessin-habit quartz is named for Ticino Canton, Switzerland from where it was first described. Steep rhombohedral and prism faces create the elongated shape which resembles a typical sapphire habit. From my personal collection. 3.1 x 2.8 x 1.5 cm.
