Classic092 - Cordierite var. Iolite - Harris Quarry, Richmond, Cheshire County, New Hampshire

Older, classic New England specimen by way of Schortmann's Minerals and the Albert Sebela collection. The greyish-blue stocky crystals are imbedded in a quartz matrix and measure to about 1.5 cm. Unlike most cordierite specimens from this locality, the crystals are a bluish-grey in color (most are brown to olive-brown.) Specimens like this very rarely come on the market.
