Nice specimen of babingtonite on prehnite from this classic New England locality. The prehnite, measuring 1.8 cm across, is the main attraction in this specimen and consists of two generations: a fine green, translucent ball, and a secondary growth of frosted, more prismatic crystals. The babingtonite measures to about 1.4 cm. The specimen is contacted on the reverse and at the tip of the larger babingtonite aggregate where it was originally attached to a rotted calcite matrix. 2.5 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm.
These specimens were found in the early 2000's and were sold by me at Springfield in 2008 (see What's New in Minerals (10/28/2008 - Mineralogical Record online.) I recently reacquired four through a trade and am offering them here.
